2 Changes at Marina 'iff' I V'- 5 1' will I - -,ff V, .iff . Mr. Dysinger Mr. Weaver On November 23 the Board of Education approved the reassignment of our Principal, Mr. Dysinger to serve as an Administrative Assistant preparing a feasibility study on the all-year con- cept for our district. The all-year concept of schooling would put an end to our present system of nine months of school with a three month Vacation during the summer. Instead, one would go to school for nine weeks and then have three Weeks of vacation. While one group of students are on vacation another group will begin classes. Thus, vacations will be staggered, with the exception of a common Christmas and Easter vacation. If this concept were to be implemented then each school would be able to facilitate one third more students than they are presently, therefore, lessening the need for more schools. Replacing Mr. Dysinger as Principal was our Assistant Principal of Curriculum, Mr. Weaver. Stepping up from his position as Assistant Principal of Supervision, Mr. Lucas took over the job of Curriculum Assistant Principal. Filled by Mr. Lucas' post as Assistant Principal of Supervision Was Mr. Kennedy, the Athletic Director. Mr. Lucas Mr. Kennedy 1 I . I WIIIX nuru ,f f , it 4 v 1 'HTA - .

E VerUcalCounseHng Over the past years, the Guidance Department of Marina High School has assigned students to a particular counselor, and that counselor has followed the student through each grade level to gradua- tion. Beginning this year, however, a different method of student assignment was initiated in an ef- fort to facilitate comprehensive counseling, and to better meet the needs of the student. First each counselor was assigned a specific group of pupils to counsel. This was based on the first letter ofthe student's last name. One counselor, for example was assigned to all pupils Whose last names began with the letters A through BUO. The eight counselors involved then do the educational, vocational, and personal counseling with students of all grade levels Within their specific alphabetical group. VVork Expedence Career investigation is a vo- cational guidance program where- in interested students spend one semester on a variety of training stations. This is a school-credit, no-pay program, before, after, or during the school day limited to 20 credits. Vocational Work Experience Education has as its purpose an extension of vocational learning opportunities for students through part-time employment in an oc- cupation for which their instruc- tion in school is preparing them. All of the part-time employment may occur during or after school l ,f hours. Participation in this pro- I gram is limited to a maximum of 40 credits.
