All The World's A Stage As Thespians A d A. lmprovising, as demonstrated by Mary Stout and Scott Elliott, is a skill often used by Thespians. The National Thespian Society recognizes students for their work in dramatic arts. Students who have completed one hundred hours of dramatics works are tapped for Thespians. The Senior Class Play, Our Town , and the All School Musicale, CameIot , provided opportunities for interested students to gain hours. Following a week long initiation, new members were honored at a banquet held at the Lafayette Hotel.

The waiting proved worthwhile: on June 25 I flew from New York to Brussels, Belgium on the first leg of my journey to Finland. When I left, I knew very little about the Finns. A hurried search of the local libraries had turned up a few chapters about the geography and history, enough of the language to prove its claim of being one of the most difficult. By the time I returned, I knew a little more about Finland, its people, and their way of life, but very little of its language. lt's very difficult. There are so many memories that I really don't know where to begin. Sauna is an experience l'll never forget. At first, I was a bit appalled at the idea of roasting myself at 23OOF. But after the first time, I was an instant addict. But most of my memories of Finland are memories of people. First of all, there is my new family-lVlr. and lVlrs. Helme, lVlatti, Seiya, and Eva. By welcoming an American teenager into their home, they made my whole AFS experience possible and gave me a whole new set of relatives. And there are all the kids from the summer school where I spent my first month, the teachers, and the unforgettable Wolfgang E. Schonert, Susan Stormont of Rochester, New York, my co-teacher at Paivola Summer Gymnasium, Anja Lwihaner, Head of the Finnsh AFS, all the AFS Finland-'69'ers, and so many others on both sides of the ocean. I would like to thank the many people who made my trip possible. lt would be impossible to list them or even thank any one of them enough on this page. I believe that each year as more young people live and study abroad, another step is made towards understanding, sometimes indispensable in to- day's rapidly shrinking world. I am grateful that I have had a chance to be a part of it. Luv, Mike A. Our two AFS students, Ze' Alves and Mike lVIoynihan, are often found arguing about American policies. B. Rehearsing for the Variety Band Show is only one of Ze's many activities. C. Charlie Brown often helped Nlike break ice while in Finland.
