Senior Footnotes Sophomores! And now we could boss the lowly Frosh. This year we elected Jim Hastings as presidentg Ron Casto, vice president, and joy Cisler played a repeat performance as secre- tary-treasurer. The whole class was talking about a certain teacher's prediction concerning the hydrogen bomb, Mule Train, which rode the top of the Hit Parade for a long timeg some of our fellows playing varsity football, the first basketball homecoming, a feat of the Soph Y-teens and Hi-Y, thereby starting a tradition, the booths at the Carnival, Grand Ole Opry, with Minnie Pearl and Ernie Tubbg and a sideshow featuring some lively Hi-Y gals, all those parties, the Senior High Girls' Glee Club concerts, our first, and some more new additions to our class. With our graduation day still far in the future, we were happy go-lucky Sopohomores. As upperclassmen and Juniors, we looked forward to our very busy last two years. We got things started by white-washing our numerals all over town. A few of us almost blew up things after our meeting with the chem lab, but everybody survived the junior atomic bomb attacks, and the class went on to elect Bennie Cain president, Dan Torpy vice president, and Helen Harman secretary-treasurer. Now the parking lot seemed crowded, for the juniors h.ad come of age and were driving. So you remember that one of us won a speech contest? And the Homecoming parade? Homecoming had more meaning this year because we were part of the team. Santa Claus and our class Hoat came in early in the Thanksgiving parade. Then the snow came down and down and down and the town shoveled its way out and school resumed, only to let out again for Christmas vacation which brought tired feet for some and presents for all. Do you remember the Y-teen Tea Dance, the Hi-Y parties, and New Year's Eve? In January came our class rings-bright and shiny, the symbol that at last we were Juniors. Do you remember the Junior play and jail at the Carnival? We were managing the Carnival this year, and our candidates were voted to reign as king and queen at the basketball game. We picked our representatives to Girls' and to Boys' States in this year and our editors for the 1952 Orian. Remember our play Dolly Dittenfeffern? One more step in our money making scheme toward the Prom. The Prom, our Prom, Pink Spring, May 12th. After great preparation we started the day of decorating, of arguments, of hard work, of tired feet, of hectic rush, and of last minute changes, until at last all was completed. That night couples danced to the music of Johnny Leonard, and the king and queen were crowned. The lucky eleven were chosen from our class for National Honor Society and more of us were admitted to Quill and Scroll or National Thespian Society. The class picnic at Masonic Park with its baseball and football games was our last official get-together as Juniors. We looked forward to our last year at Marietta High School. And now Seniors! The last year that seemed so far away, five years ago was upon us, bring- ing work for all. We elected Jack Carleton to serve .as president of the Senior Class, Alan Edwards as vice president, and Shirley Thompson as Secretary-treasurer. Work started right away on the 1952 Orian by the staff picked last year. The Original was edited by a Senior, and although threatened by lack of subscriptions, came out better than before. Early in November came the well-remembered Homecoming. Rain, snow, and ice made it the coldest in years. Half-time ceremonies were held in the midst of a snow storm, but, in spite of the weather, our class float won second prize and the queen was crowned. Homecoming brought the close of football se.ason and the beginning of basketball and Thanksgiving vacation. In December came snow and the annual Christmas assembly. january and the flood with a week's vacation wound up the first semester's work. Soon after, the Seniors were tapped for National Honor Society. Our first semester seemed to go extra fast. Our catch words were Don't know, do you? , Let's check and You said that right. Now the tense is changing from past to present and we are counting the days left. The Senior Recognition Assembly, Baccalaureate, .and finally, Graduation are coming too quickly. And for the first time our class, the Centennial Class, is learning the meaning of unity, the real meaning of co-operation as we work toward graduation and think of that day when we, Seniors till the last minute and a whole class for the last time, will receive our diplomas and join the other ranks of June graduates, and separate from each other.
