RELIGIG Study and worship preserve MHS spirit The importance of Christian ideals in a civil- ization as frenzied as today's was emphasized by the religion faculty who developed in their classes the theme of Christ's law of love. Dis- cussions, films, lectures, shared prayer, and heart-to-heart talks with the priests revealed a new interest and desire of the students to become involved in the courses. The religion curriculum brought to all classes an aware- ness of the problems confronting man through the ages as well as contemporary efforts to modernize the knowledge and service of God through love of His creation. 25

SUCIAL STUDIES encourage community awareness Since the political future of this world de- pends upon the present generation of young adults, the social studies curriculum at Marian was designed to unite past events wih current affairs in order to prepare an informed elec- torate among the students. In addition to the required courses, several electives were intro- duced which provided opportunities for exam- ining social and economic problems and state and local government. By research, discussion and political analysis, the faculty and students endeavored to apply their knowledge of his- tory to the problems of the present day. Mr. Ga1lagher's P.O.D. class involves keeping abreast of current events. Michele Dubosky reviews her arti- cle while awating her turn to address the class. Maryellen Stiles reviews her American Cultures as- signment by checking her answers to the chapter questions. The sophomores display serious concern for the prob- lems of the American Indians caused by the expansion of U.S. frontiers in the nineteenth century. R 'Juv j X

TH develops systematic thinking The demands of a technological society are re- flected in the wide variety of courses offered by the mathematics department at Marian. Courses ranged from advanced topics and the usual aca- demic program to business math on the practical level. The skills developed in these courses facili- tated the growth of accuracy and logical thought which will benefit the students in other areas of study. Individual attention is an important part of modular scheduling. Sister Marguerite Mary helps Iohn Matrishin attack a difficult problem in analysis. Mr. Huber uses surveying equipment to demonstrate prin- ciples of geometry to a group of sophomores.
