Class History On September 1 1953 ten little passengers reported to the M H S Air port to begin a thirteen year tour These passengers, of course, hated to leave home but, after the first confusion was over names found on the passenger list were as follows Marilyn Kathleen Boever, Patricia Ann Drefke Wilmer Marion Heesch, Sally Ann Francks, Karleen Kay Klingborg, Robert McClintock, Karen Joan Wlngert, Marcia Ann McGee and Karen Kay Weicht Along the journey we stopped at Simpson Bethel and added Reita Jean Mottto our excursion Sally Ann Francks, Kathleen Boever, and Patty Drefke parachuted our during the first part of this year The main event of our flight the first year was our square dancing les sons Our guide was Miss Bothwell All seemed to enjoy the first year of our tour except Bobby McClintock. who transferred to the Holy Name Airlines, and Marcia McGee who transferred to an other adventurous group in California Our guide for this first year was Miss Audrey Oleson, who later turned the tour over to Miss Arlene Bugh As we ad vanced further into our trip, we acquired Marcia Bullock, another adventurer eager to travel Our second year brought us the same guide Miss Bugh but a lotofdiffgrent passengers all ready for flight They were Jimmy Kelsch, Dickie Roberts, Paul Mayer, Robert Meyer, the twins, Sally and Sue Jebsen, and their sister, Sylvia Our losses consistedcf Karen Wlngert who bailed out over Remsen. Marcia Bullock and the newly acquired Jebsen sisters Bernell Ebert joined our group also Paul Dorr and Beryl Coulson were added to the list on our third year of flight Sally Francks rejoined us this year This was the year we organized our police patrol under the supervisionof our new guide Miss Betty Ann McEnroe Every member on this patrol had their own private badge and patrolled the side walks of our airport On our fourth year of the tour Mrs Martha Dahlgren was our guide At this point Beryl Coulson got off at Storm Lake and Sally Francks at Sioux City Dur ing this year with Mrs Dahlgren, the passengers learned many new and interesting During our fifth year Miss Helen Eisle became our guide This year we acquired three new passengers Florence Harder, Arlene Schmillen. and Fred Nielson During the middle of the year James Kelsch parachuted out due to a tragedy in the family During the many events that happened this year, Sally Francks and Beryl Coulson rejoined us Next in store for the members of this passenger list was their sixth trip of their journey During the flight this year we received some more new passen gers They were Annette Dorr, Norma Seggerman Clarence Hohbach, Paul Johnson, Melvin Schlenger, Janet Miller, Colleen King and Ramona Reed With these eight new passengers comingin to go along on our flight, our passenger list grew some what larger Also during this trip, the airlines saw it fit to give us a new instructor whose name was Miss leone Wachtler Miss Wachtler was a very strict instructor, but I am sure all who were under her guiding hand fwith the help of a canoe paddle? seemed to learn a good deal Everyone thought that Miss Whchtler would againte the guide for the seventh year of the tour, but her sister in Sprlngfield, Illinois, suddenly became sick For the first time durlng the whole tour the passengers were placed under the guiding hand of a male instructor Mr Steve Roper Mr Roper left after one semester of guidance, and the reason for his leaving never seemed to be known The next instructor in line was a Mr Dale Moen. who shall never be forgotten in the history of the tour these passengers had The high spot of this year's jour ney was that no matter how hard the lnstructor seemed to try he couldn't seem to make the passengers understand the trip Mr Moen's assistant through this year was Miss Paula Schnef Miss Schnef's well known arithmetic problems which she gave to the passengers who had nothirg to do between stops, kept everyone rather busy Before this year ended we lost two of our newlv acquired passengers Col leen King and Ramona Reed Beverly Hargens and Eva Oden joined our happy little group the second half of the year Next year Miss Leone Wachtler again became our guide During the previous flight. we seemed to have gotten on the wrong course, but our guide, Miss Wacht ler, seemed to straighten it all out we received only one new passenger this year, who stayed for only the first part ofthe trip His name was Larry Bishop We shall pause a moment to state that our passengers on this flight have now reached the point in their tour which will be a complete change from the past as they journey through the last four years of their tour 1 : , , , . I I . ' . things. Verna Brownmiller became a member of the excursion. Beginning our ninth year of the tour we lost Beverly nargens and bva Cden, but we acqulred John Dorr, Frarcls heilsen Janet Hagenbucher and Phyllis Coch rane This year we were blessed with six entirely new instructors They were .r Leonard Ask Mr Harold Ripple Va' Stan Brown, Mrs Floy Johnson Miss Elonse Belknap. and Mr Fred Benton hveryth1ng durlng this year's trip was ex citlng and different There were lots of parties between stops but thereis one we will always remember our initiation This year closed with a picnic at Paul l1na Lake We regret an unfortunate m1shap whereby Annette Dorr was acc1dently THROWN 1nto the lake Close to the end ol this vear we received a replacement for Miss Belknap, who left cur plane when we stooped to refuel at Hawaii s Ray Dirkson came aboard to take her place Our tenth year began with the replacement of Mr Benton and Mr Brown The 'handsome coach, Dick Richardson Mrs Lorraine Meehan was one of our new in structors this year We lost two passengers because they cculdn't standihe high altitude any longer They were Karen Weicht and Wilmer Heesch Beverly Rargens transferred to a different airllnes, while Eugene Ball Joined us The highlight of this year was when we all visited the Shrine Circus The flight ended this year with a picnic at Mill Creek The eleventh year started with the same passengers The new instructors this year were Mr Harry Helgason and Mr Curtis Risk Our Junior class play, uCinderella Cottage. was given under the direction of M s Johns Thus year we were called back to Des Moines to attend a meeting at which all the passen gers met and shook hands with Governor Leo Hoegh While we were in Des Moines we decided to climb to the top of the Capitol Arter our excursion in Des Moines we immediately left again to visit the Orient We held a large prom and banquet in China our theme was Oriental Gardens which will be remembered for 8 loag time The twelfth and last year started on August 29 1955 This year was the most important year of all because it was the last Robert Meyer left us this year We got four new instructors who were Miss Strand, Mrs Krauth. Mr Rich ards, and Miss Messersmith The highlights of this year were all the parties and things that we did between stops and the senior class play Ghost Wanted ' Everyone hated to see their long trip ccme to a close, but the trip was very profitable from the beginning to the end The class is now looking forward to May 18, when they hope to draw to a conclusion their tour of the past thirteen years 1 1 1 ' ye..
