Freshman year, Donna decided to become in- volved in the school newspaper. She started out as a reporter, but during her sophomore year, she was given the o- sition of public relations. Finally, liner junior year, Donna became co-editor- in-chief of PADRE PRESS. As a junior, Donna functioned as Teen Gazette correspondent for Marcos and also wrote articles for Tempe Daily News and Teen Times. After every stor I write, I feel I am a better writer, andwt makes me want to write more, commented Hale. lt was during a journalism convention in Flagstaff that Donna became aware of her second major interest, govern- ment. One of the people she met was going to be a page in Washington, D.C. After he told her about it, Donna be- came very interested and decided to attend the week-long Close-Up pro- gram in April of 1986. This trip in- creased her involvement in govern- ment. l've thought about being a politician, but right now journalism is my main focus, said Hale. After graduating, Donna will go to college. There she plans to major in journalism with a minor in public rela- tions. Donna Hale is also involved in other activities. She had done volunteer work at the Phoenix Childrens Hospital and has been a peer counselor and youth leader at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. 1

With this core of leadership, the sophomores worked hard to complete their projects. We made a lot of profit from the car- nation sale for Homecoming the reason we have the Carnation sale is to raise money for Coronation, which the sophomore class sponsors, said Nicole Young. The sophomores used their money mainly for Coronation, but any remain- ing money was carried over for next year. Overall, the sophomores helped im- prove,Padre spirit and made 86-87 a year to remember. .1 in 84 Classes
