ill Fashions took a blast from the past for 1987 as the 1950's 60's and 80's were all mixed together in one crazy swirl of style and color. The 1950's flair for hair was reflected by ponytails and buzz cuts. Holding on for another year was the now-classic bob, but it was updated as longer and straighter. For the guys, mohawks were out, but there was no shortage of peroxide-splashed bangs, sometimes long enough to cover the eyes. Girls' styles were flavored with modern innovations such as crimping or playful bows and headbands. Mousses, gels and lotions created the extreme effects most students strived for on special occasions. Gold and silver earrings were a popu- lar accessory for guys, as well as girls. They ranged from dangly hoops, as seen in the psychadelic sixties, to a sim- ple post worn by trendy guys. Also from the sixties, turtlenecks made the scene, But combined with leggings, shoulder pads, and a Swatch Watch, the look was strictly eighties. Brand names fading fast were lzod, O.P., and Ralph Lauren, replaced by popular brand names including For- enza, Espirit, Guess, Union Bay, Gen- nerraf and of course, the suddenly vogue Corona T-Shirts. Along with the fitness boom came Reeboks and rugby styles for both genders, as well as biker caps and skater gear. The bottom line for the 1987 fashion was a creative freedom to choose from styles of three distinctive eras.
