, 'MQ 571, llwaltii At Marcos de Niza, like most other schools, there was one thing that kept students going through the year Weekends. And at Marcos de Niza weekends were made to have fun. They usually started with a Friday night game. There, students began to make plans for the rest of the night and Saturday. Burger King was another place where students went to see what was going on. There are many people who enjoyed dancing the night away. They went to dance clubs, such as Prisms and Sgt. Peppers. Some other students spent time getting together at friends' houses for a good time. Others liked to go to the movies and then out for a bite to eat, while some simply rented movies at home. Weekend afternoons were spent shopping or just kicking back to relax. Some students browsed Fiesta Mall, meeting new friends, while others en- joyed thrift shopping along Mill Ave- nue. However students spent their week- ends, they were well relaxed on Mon- day, ready to face another challenging week at school. Ambtl 'bt This year a new club was added to the MdN campus. S.A.D.D., Students Against Driving Drunk, is an active club whose goal is to prevent death and in- juries due to accidents caused by stu- dents driving while intoxicated. They began this year with a special presenta- tion called Amber Lights. The goal of Amber Lights was to in- spire students to realize the value of balance and moderation in their lives. According to the ideas upon which Amber Lights was based, if students are to change their attitude about drinking and driving, they must be impressed with the benefits of the change, as well as the steps needed to bring out the change. The president of S.A.D.D. here at MdN, Greg Streech, spoke to the stu- dents and faculty on what they were about to see and the purposes of S.A.D.D. Sarah Burger, an active mem- ber of the S.A.D.D. organization, said Many students don't want to become involved in S.A.D.D., because they drink, but the purpose of 5.A.D.D. is not to discourage drinking, but to dis- courage drinking and driving. S.A.D.D. met in Mr. Adler's Drivers' Ed room about every week to plan new things, talk about progress they made and make posters for upcoming events. MdN should be proud of these few people trying to tackle such a big prob- lem. Top: Debbie johnson and Monica Birney make posters at a S.A.D.D. meeting.
