During the period of annual holiday festivities in the nation, the student body at Marcos was inspired with sea- sonal excitement at the 1986 Christmas Assembly. The Padre Concert Band magnifi- cently performed songs related to the holiday spirit and contributed in mak- ing the assembly special and unique. Although the orchestra played for the Christmas Assembly in past years, they were not able to assist by performing on this occasion. The A Capella Choir was another fac- tor that aided in the raising of Christ- mas enthusiasm. Their voices enter- tained the student body with tradition- al holiday music such, as Halleluiah and Mary's Little Boy Child as Marcos stu- dents indulged in their own early cele- bration. The guitar ensemble, led by Mr. Bob Diaz, sang and played familiar tunes in- viting the audience to clap and sing along, Mrs. Garcia, Spanish teacher, of- fered her talents with her maracas and joined in with Feliz Navidad toward the end of the assembly. Christmas comes only once a year, but with the help of Marcos de Niza's talented musical groups, the students had a memorable holiday season. For the past six ears, Marcos de Niza High School has held its annual Super Dance, a fund-raiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Many Marcos students got to ether again this year to celebrate the tieme, Dance for those who can't! Money was raised through pledges. A minimum of thirty-five dollars worth of pledges was required to attend the dance. ln previous years, each pledge received a minimum of twenty-five cents an hour, resulting in at least three dollars for the twelve hours, from noon to midnight, that the students danced. This year, however, students sought donations rior to the dance and then met the obligation to dance for a full twelve hours. Held at Rawhide, the Su er Dance included students from twelve partici- pating schools. Although the number of students participating was not as suc- cessful as in past years, Marcos de Niza showed the most spirit and support by yielding fifty of the eighty-two students who partici ated. Marcos de Niza alone made 3,200 to contribute to the Muscular Dystrophy cause.
