'Ka 5214 Aside from dances, assemblies, and special events, the 1986-87 school year at Marcos was spent in a simple way. The everyday, seemingly trivial events or campus life are what made the stu- dents' years at Marcos so memorable. Munching with friends, amidst the chit-chatter of the cafeteria, and driv- ing out to lunch packed in cars were among the daily routines at Marcos. There was never a loss of appetite where the student body was involved. This showed immensely in the success of numerous candy sales. The hubbub of campus could be heard in the six minutes between classes which began with the sounding of the first bell, as students funneled out of classes. The noise grew, rising to a peak, but with the second bell, ab- ruptly ended. The few stragglers left sprinted to class to avoid being marked tardy. After the rigamarole of attending classes, many of the more energetic students found pleasure in joining clubs or participating in athletics. At Marcos, there were many various forms of extracurricular activities, clubs, and sports. Memories of Marcos de Niza's spot- light performances, such as dances, athletics and clubs will live on forever in the souls of the student body, but it was the seemingly trivial moments of each day which provided the heart of campus life. Zami ' 4,46 54' In past years, many performances by the drama department have enter- tained Marcos audiences. Students, faculty, and parents are always im- pressed by the quality of these dramat- ic endeavors. This year, the first performance was Fame. Based on the movie, Fame, it was set in New Yorlc's School of the Arts. Ms. Partee, head of the drama de- partment, worked hard on the musical production with her crew and cast. The one thing that made this year's perfor- mance stand out was the faculty partici- pation. Many faculty members partici- pated, including Mrs. Dodge, Mrs. Waltuch, Mr. Greaven, and others who worked alongside students. Auditions for the play began in late September, and the cast spent about two hours a day rehearsing, singing and dancing its way to the performance held in late fall. Tickets were sold at the door for the performance on Novem- ber 13, 14, and 15. Fame exploded with excitement throughout the presenta- tion, and all who attended were happy they had not missed the excellent pre- sentation.
