Yearbook Requires Dedicated Staff In the Spotlight was this year's year- book theme which focused on all of the obvious aspects of life at Marcos de Niza. Behind the scenes, however, a group of twenty-nine students worked diligently to prepare the yearbook, meeting first hour each day. The year- book staff was supported by the brand- new photojournalism class. This class, taught by Mr. Burnett, helped by sup- plying pictures to the yearbook staff. Students worked on their own sec- tions as they created layouts, wrote copy, captions and headlines and in general, prepared the yearbook. Mrs. Thompson, the sponsor to year- book, said Few people realize the amount of work and dedication that goes into preparing a yearbook. Guitar and Orchestra Seventeen students met each day during third hour and played to their hearts' desires. These students are members of the well-established guitar club, sponsored by Mr. Bob Diaz. For thirteen years, guitar club has been at Marcos promoting the guitar and the variety of music for which it may be used. Officers were President Ted De- quina, Vice President Andy Chacon, Secretary Kristina Huskinson, and Trea- surer joseph Monyer. They raised funds for a tour by candy sales. Also, they played an enthusiastic role in the Christmas Assembly. The twenty-seven member orches- tra, sponsored by jill Osborne, met ev- ery day seventh hour. The group was led by its officers, President Lisa Palmer, Vice President Keith Shillito, Secretary Christine Lyle, Treasurer Torrey Ma- son, and Public Relations Becky Witter. The Orchestra, which has been at Mar- cos since it opened, had candy sales and car washes to raise money for the scholarship fund, music festivals, and for attending All-State competition. m,wfM.m,... ,,.,,,, N ,,,,. . .-,, .... ,W ,N e , A rf Y? ff - mrf.a,w N am V K 1 . l , .vvrffffyf H , 'f f W Q., . f nother Successful year for Staff of Padre Press The school newspaper the Pa , dr Press, puts out an issue of the newspa- 6 per each month. This year was a re- cord-breaking year for the Padre Press. The staffers published two sixteen- page papers, and they also had the first color issue in the school's history. Some members of the staff were able to attend a summer workshop at NAU, and they also participated in other var- ious journalism conventions through- out the year. The Padre Press enables the journalism students to learn the tactics for a professional journalism ca- reer, and it opens up a new door to a career field that they may not have in- vestigated otherwise. l really enjoyed working on the Padre Press, because it offered me numerous opportunities in the journalism field, said Donna Hale, Mr 4 a Co-editor-in-chief. Melinda Easton, also a co-editor-in-chief, said I really enjoyed working on the paper because it gave me a chance to work with some fantastic people. Even though it was a lot of work at deadlines, we still had a lot of fun. l hope next year is just as productive. J ,, 1V,,,, 8 , ,M . E . Ms? ,J 9 5 .3 ..
