A oment Glory For HS Inductees Forty-five students were inducted into the Marcos de Niza chapter of Na- tional Honor Society on December 3. Chosen on leadership skills, character, academic achievements, and commu- nity service, it was necessary for each be sponsored by at least members. candidate to three faculty Maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 was the first prerequisite to be con- sidered for N.H.S., and it continues to be a firm requirement. Once inducted, if a member falls below a 3.5 g.p.a., he is given a warning and put on probation for a semester. Building upon its repu- tation for community service, National Honor Society requires that each mem- ber perform two service projects a year. One such project performed by N.H.S. members is an extensive tutor- ing program aimed at assisting Marcos students in areas of academic difficulty. S Serves Community The National Honor Society's pur- pose was to recognize outstanding ju- niors and Seniors for their achieve- ments in the areas of service, scholar- ship, character, and leadership. The members strived to serve the campus through various projects and programs like student tutoring, an art festival, college night, and freshman orientation, to name a few. The officers were President Lisa Palmer, Treasurer Kristy Krenzer, Vice President Deanna Morenzoni, and Sec- retary Angela Stahl. They had forty-five additiona original members, and they inducted approximately forty more ju- niors and seniors in December. National Honor Society members raised funds for scholarships to be awarded to two N.H.S. members se- lected by the Marcos faculty. Funds were also used for service projects and hosting a senior breakfast to honor the top ten percent of the graduating class in May. The only fundraiser set up was a tu- toring program for students from Mar- cos and surrounding schools who needed help in their classes. N.H.S. members met once a month before school on Wednesdays. The group's sponsor was Mrs. Cum- mings. The Marcos De Niza chapter of National Honor Society has been an im- portant organization since Marcos opened its doors in 1971.
