Backed by the coaching of Mr. Ron Cosner, the team was able to pull away with a 9-6-1 record and a tenth-place ranking in state. Mr. Cosner believes his strong point of coaching is llike like to think Iknow a little about golf Other coaches just organize the teams. Some of the talented boy golfers on the team were Mark Vrabel, joe Hu- guez, and Mike Duff. The girl's golf team, under the coaching of Mr. john Lassen, had a Ranking more-than-satisfactory year. Although this year's team is slightly behind last year's, Mr. Lassen was confident his members will pull through with a strong finish, and they did. Some of the outstanding girl golfers were Rhonda Perris, jodi Fults, Pam Da- vis, and Mindy Verdugo. Mr. Lassen believes in working hard during practice, but having fun while doing so. You must first enjoy playing the game, and then you must realize that improvement comes painfully slow. .. Q r- ' . - 164 its i l 2Q t If iii' wr 1 1 l M X W X i .... g g

With only two returning varsity lettermen, the team was faced with a rebuilding season. ln addition, although many schools have the advantage of training players exclusively dedicated to basket- ball, several all-around athletes at Mar- cos made the quick transition from football to basketball. Willy Lira felt that the quick move affected him, stating I didn't have my shot down for the first month. Lira also felt that although many on the team began playing as indivi- duals, they learned to perform more as a team later in the season. Although not reflected in its record, the team im- proved tremendously, becoming in- creasingly more competitive as the sea- son progressed. Leading scorer, Willy Lira, was also one of the team's co-captains, along with Rusty Bell. Snagging the most re- bounds for the team was a job handled by Matt Hargis. Although not pleased with their sea- son record, most varsity players agreed that they had worked hard, learned a great deal and enjoyed playing togeth- er as a team. if 3153 f . ya fir? Qw- 'WWW
