The attitude of the en- tire cross country team reflected this idea, as they pushed themselves on to victory. During the summer, members of both the boys' and girls' teams trained by lifting weights and running distance. During the season when regular practices began, run- ners were required to attend morning and afternoon runs. The boys' teams, both varsity and junior varsity, were coached by Dutton. The final meet left the varsity team 7-4, and the j.V. 9-2. The highlight of the season was win- ning the City Championship on three lev- els- Varsity, j.V. and Freshman. Top runners included Burt Perrine, Steve Quintero, Brett Hofmann, Mike Chalmers, Eckart Pape, and Karl Winkleman, all who received All-City honors. Varsity team captain Brett Excellence Hofmann commented, Being on cross country was like being a member of a close family. All year long we competed with top schools, and in the end, proved our strength as a team. The girls' team, coached by Pete Pond, finished the season with a record of 5-5, the best record ever for a Marcos girls' cross country team. Top runners were Kim jack- son, Heidi Curtis, Amy Brock, Michelle Hill- man, Sam Thomas, Lori Lagro and Lisa Davis. Although the season was competitive, run- ners such as jackson and Curtis propelled Marcos into the spotlight. Although eleven seniors graduated, next year's team will also be full of depth. Re- turning juniors Burt Perrine and Karl Wink- leman, Sophomores Kevin Ferguson and Rob Ferguson, and Freshman john Garcia will be back and ready to perform. ' HAH ff M 'M fam.
