But according to Mrs. Crane, one of the Home Economics teachers, This class is for girls and boys alike. For instance, if a person were not married, and he did not know how to cook, he might end up eating out every night which could get expensive. There are more classes in the Home Economics Department than just Foods. There is Sewing 'I-2-3-, which is a semester class, and Home Design will teach how to do things like an interior decorator. Child Development teaches how to raise a child if one gets married. A new class, Fashion Merchandise Cen- ter, is only offered for juniors and Sen- iors. Home Economics Related Occu- pation, or H.E.R.O., is a class in which students worked outside of class for a credit. H.E.R.O. is only offered to Sen- iors. Other classes include Personal Awareness, for freshman and sopho- mores, and Human Realation is for lu- niors and Seniors. A whole lot of kids get involved with this class mainly be- cause the more work they do, the more things they get in return, such as foods. The more time kids put into some- thing, the students get just as much things back, said Mrs. Crane. Many kids enjoy Home Economics and Mrs. Crane hopes that everyone else will as welll Academics

From Backstage to Spotlight The Drama Department set the mood for the Performing Arts, with its fall performance of Fame. Going from the nervousness of tryouts to the jitters of opening night, performance is what the Performing Arts Department is all about. The band, hopping from NAU to ASU Band Days, pulled off superior and excellent ratings. The band led the school spirit at football games with its fantastic half-time shows. Using car washes and department fundraisers, the band was in gear for a successful year. Also in the performance arena, the Crchestra rehearsed each day to achieve superior and excellent ratings at ASU. The choir also had a profitable year. From hawking at ASU to rummage sales, its fundraisers proved to be suc- cessful. As well as its annual concerts and festivals, it combined with other schools to put on an exceptional per- formance. Students with some talent and a de- sire for excellence were involved in the soul of Performing Arts. The support of students and faculty gave the members both on stage and behind the scenes the applause they deserved! Academics 143
