Basic Skills for Future jobs Business classes offer basic skills needed for almost any job in the area of business. Popular courses offered in- clude typing, computers, COE, DECA, and Word Processing. Word Processing is a fun and challenging class, because you learn something new on comput- ers everyday, says lenifer Fuhrmark. A few of the business courses assist students in finding jobs, for example, DECA and COE help students get in- volved with the community by teach- ing them skills and techniques needed for the field of business they would like to follow. From courses like this, a stu- dent can get on-the-job training and get paid at the same time. Business classes provide a hands-on opportunity for students to gain the skills and ex- perience necessary for future careers. Academics 0 131

N vv.. - 'f Foreign Language Builds Futures According to French teacher Mrs. Joann Pompa, The Marcos de Niza lan- guage department offered students the chance to learn more than just a lan- guage. The student was given the op- portunity to build an appreciation not only of the language itself but the cul- ture, history, and future of that lan- guage. Marcos offered students French, Spanish, German, and a new addition, Latin. Every year the Foreign Language Department gets bigger. This year was no exception, it enabled the students to take upper-level classes in order to become affluent in diversified languages. The students at Marcos become more aware of foreign language oppor- tunities with the addition of one re- quired credit from the department. Mrs. Pompa feels that students should expand one's career and travel hori- zons by taking multiple years of a lan- guage. The continuation of language- oriented clubs, such as French Club, German Club, and Latin Club enabled students and faculty sponsors to ex- pand their language opportunities to extra-curricular activities. Membership was offered to any student, whether taking the language or not. Academics 133
