SPECIAL A WA RD Kent was selected last year to attend the American Legion Boys' State in 1 Sacramento in june. The Anthony L. Oneto Post 812 QU. S. Imm. and 1 Natl. Servicej of Los Angeles sponsored him. The post payed all his expenses with a little spending money. He stayed at the Cal State University in ' Sacramento. Kent Howell Kelly was chosen by the Daughters of the American Revolution to represent Maranatha. This service organization has a scholarship fund. She was selected by the teachers and then asked to take a test on historical events. She will compete with other representatives from this area. 9753. n Qian.. Kelly Worrell Gary was chosen from our school to write a 100-word essay for the Bank of America Award, a scholarship. If he wins he will then compete in state competition for a larger scholarship. Gary Murakami Kathi was selected the Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow of Maranatha. She was awarded a certificate and placed in state competition for California's Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow, and a possibility of up to SS, O00 in scholarships. She won by taking a test of multiple-choice and short essays on family psychology, homemaking skill, and nun-ition. K athi S c oon

BOOSTER CLUB The Maranatha Booster Club is an organization whose pur- pose is to provide for parental involvement in school ath- letic acitvities. The parents elect officers during their three or four meetings per year, and discuss the needs of the various coaches and teams. The Booster Club raises money for equipmentg its members assist in time-keeping at football games and work on the sidelines during all the sports. Opening the school season is the annual Hamburger Kick- Off Dinner at school, with the Sports Award Banquet a fitting conclusion to the end of the year. The Constitution of the Maranatha P. T. F. states its purpose in the following man- ner: The Parent-Teacher Fellowship is a working or- ganization of parents and teach- ers to co-operate with the school in developing an under- standing between the teachers and parents in their mutual concern for the welfare of the students enrolled in the school. The P.T. F. is a parent-faculty endorsement of the students and their acitvities. Its meet- ings are carried out in orderly fashion following standard Parliamentary procedure. Alloting funds to the various organizations and activities is one of its functions. The up- keep and improvement of school facilities are another major concern.
