Marana Netters Gain Confidence, Momentum Success for the girls' tennis team came as the girls built up strength and endurance in pre-season weightlift- ing. Although bad weather cancelled many practices, the girls kept their confidence high and made the most of the time they had. The team consisted of six varsity and five JV players. Limited court space at Marana and smaller teams at other schools were reasons for the small team. Coach Kim Holaway predicted a third or fourth place season finish. l. Members of the girls' varsity tennis team are Becky Davis, Sandy Sokoloski, Sara Gladden, Cindy Nuckolls, Michaelle Del Peschio, Dottie James and Coach Holaway. 2. Tigers Show Aggressive Form Un Cour It was a year of reconstruction for the boys' tennis team under the coaching of Dave Shirk. Coach Shirk came to Marana this year as a pro-college tennis player. He also taught the sport at the Tucson Racquet Club and Randolph Park. The varsity netters had good prospects in Chuck Phillips and Jerry White. Coach Shirk expect- ed the Tigers to finish first or second in the division with their toughest opponents being CDO and Nogales. I. Eli Freeman hits a backhand shot. 2.
