Junior Varsity Football Team Finishes Close To Ever 'T . ...ref ' ' .. - . i fx 4, S . I 525. ig 1 VT i' Q '-Q-N ' The junior varsity football team was full of spirit and enthu- siasm through thick and thin. The Cubs finished the year with a 4-5 win-loss record. Coach Catt was very happy with his Cubs despite the record. He commented that with two excep- tions every game was very close and could have gone either way. The Cubs were super spirited through their first three games which they won and that was a sign of a winner. But for them to maintain their spirit and enthusiasm during each of their five losses was a sign of a champion. Mr. Catt noted that the Cubs played really well against undefeated Safford on the second to last game and that the game was even closer than the 13-6 ross indicated. It's always great to finish the season with a win and that's what the Cubs did in scoring a season high of 27 while holding San Manuel to 16. With a lot of hard work, dedication and a few good breaks for a change, next year's varsity looks promising. l. Freshman Football Ends In Program's Top Record The freshman football team ended the year with the best record of the three Marana teams, at 4-4-1. Coach March commented that none of the four losses suffered were by more than one touchdown. The Kittens' defense was extremely intense through- out the year. The stingy Kitten defense never allowed more than 19 points to be scored against them in a single game, and twice opponents were held scoreless. They held opponents to an average of only 8 points per game. In the last game of the season against San Manuel the Kittens stopped the Miners in three consecutive fourth quarter goal line stands. The game finished in a 6-6 tie. Coach March said, I truly believe that this group will give Marana a state championship title within the next three years. I.
