I-lard-Fought Season Ends For Varsity Footba Marana's new head coach Larry Casoni and his assis- tants, Paul Schmidt and Bill Ludeke, found it difficult to capture the AA South conference championship with the Tigers' season's hopes ending in a 3-6-1 win-loss record. The Tigers opened up the season with three non-confer- ence games with the Tigers coming out ahead in two of them. Nogales was their first opponent as they entered the AA south conference. The Tigers beat Nogales 28-I 8 with a strong come back in the first quarter. With this victory the tigers pulled off their first homecoming game since l974 and won their first conference game on Tiger turf. The Tigers then traveled to Flowing Wells to tie the Cabelleros l4-l4 and lost the Arizona playoff series that is required in case of a tie. The Tigers then hosted top rival Canyon Del Oro. It was a tough defensive game all the way, with the Tigers scoring first. The Dorados then capsized on a defensive mistake that caused the Tigers two points. Then with a minute and forty seconds left the tigers were stunned as a Dorado ran a punt back for a touchdown with the Tigers losing a heart- breaker, 8-6. The Tigers then went on the road for three games, Douglas, Tolleson and Safford and lost all three games on costly mistakes. The last home game ended in a loss to San Manuel I8-l l. Though the record did not show the Tigers were winners. They were winners to Maraha High School as they brought spirit and enthusiasm to the school. l.
