Math, Science Area Builds For Today's Technology The Science department gained a new staff mem- ber, Gordon Scott. The addition of a new teacher made the Science department able to add the extra classes at the General Science and Biology 1-2 level. Advanced classes aimed at the college-bound student. Larger classes faced the Math department. An aide was hired to help the teachers deal with all the extra work. Math curriculum varied to reach every ability and interest level. Remedial instruction helped those who needed basic skills and advanced courses also met needs of the college bound. l. Mrs. Maycher carefully explains a complicated formula to her Algebra class. 2. Mr. Larson checks his gradcbook while two of his Biology students wait to hear their grades on the last assignment. 3. X Shops Teach Students Industrial Arts Skills A new Vocational Welding class was added to Marana's shop program. Among other things, this class taught stu- dents the proper way to weld and gave them experience in the industrial arts. Federal funds received by this class so that it could obtain some new welding equipment, which it used to build-up the welding program. Other classes in the shop area include Vocational Agriculture, Automotives and Construction. Vo-Ag taught students about agriculture and farming. A building begun in October 1977 and completed this year. became a shelter for the Vo-Ag classes. Through completion of this building, Vo-Ag obtained two classrooms and a large shop area. Building, assembly and brick laying were among the skills practiced by the Construction class, which proved to be a great help to the Special Education department. The class built a new classroom for the Special Education students. Home Ec classes offered domestic and career skills. I. Mr. Neppl grades some test papers for his Vocational Agriculture class. 2. Supportive Personnel Keep School Working Efficiently The supportive personnel kept the school going smoothly. The ladies in the office watched for unexcused tardies, clarified absences and organized schedules. Mrs. Paddock, took care of all the ailments ofthe student body and the cafeteria workers prepared lunches for the students every day. A lot of work was done by the maintenance department too. Charlie Perkins and his crew kept the campus looking good and the physical plant in running order. I. Mrs. Payne works efficiently for the counselors office. 2. Office personnel are Wanda Spencer, Kay Payne, Joyce Federico, Niki Paddock, Elaine Tharp and Joyce Paterson. 3. Mrs. Paddock performs one of her nursing duties. 4.
