Departments Build Skills In Mastering Two Languages Since courses in a foreign language are required by most colleges, participation in Marana's Spanish classes was good. So good in fact, that the school added one more class to the schedule to make room for extra students wanting Spanish instruction. The English Department transferred one of its classes to the auditorium. Paperback Power was held in the north pod during first hour. This eased crowding in the English wing as well as provided reading time for over 50 students each semester. I. Ms. Merrill carefully explains an assignment to her poetry class. 2. Mike Cook asks Mrs. Chesnut for some assistance on an English assignment. 3. Mrs. Mann and Kelly Patton discuss ideas for an essay for American Literature class. 4. Mr. Urquides shows Sherri Eshpeter how to properly conjugate a verb. V - , , , . rig-r . AQ' K ' Q N 1 .ef .X 1 Q . s sis . ' Elsie Mann ia, gf i i ' Yvonne Merrill yi A N ., Cary Chestnut. Shari Plamann Classes Develop Reading Social Sk1lls This year the reading program had ex- panded with several new sections, a new teacher, Miss Beatrice Goldsmith, and also two COE students. Classes that went to the library found it more relaxed and useful to them after one of the new librarian's, Miss Gibadlo, tours and explanations of the Dewey Decimal System. Social studies classes were required of students for their junior and senior years. American History and Constitution gave an over-all look of the society in which we live and the way it functions. An elective world history course was also offered. I. Miss Plamann is interrupted by the camera while grading students' papers. 2. Mr. Catt chuckles while he goes over some of his students' grades. 3. Mr. Nystrom and Miss Gibadlo rumage through some paperback books, looking for a specific one.
