Business Area Expands To Work-Study Program Marana's Business Department expanded and began a Cooperative Office Education program under department head, Terri Lantych. This new work-study program ad- vanced students' skills in office procedure. Over fifty stu- dents were enrolled in the program which promised to be a helpful addition. Marana's business program has steadily grown in enrollment and expanded its curriculum to include a new Consumer Education course which joined the tradi- tional courses of typing, shorthand, accounting and office procedures. l. ' l .. Diversified Occupa There were a lot less jobless students at Marana due to the DO program. Diversified Occupations QDOJ attracted the attention of Marana's job-seeking students and pro- vided them with work inside and outside the school setting. Jobs included butchering, food preparation, horseshoeing, delivery work, mechanics and maintenance. Students worked during the hours they were not attending classes and received credit through the program. DO, in combina- tion with its business-related counterpart, COE, formed Marana's cooperative education program. l. Mr. Hawkins discusses his program's offerings with potential custom- ers. 2. Shari Plamann Classes Develop Reading Social Sk1lls This year the reading program had ex- panded with several new sections, a new teacher, Miss Beatrice Goldsmith, and also two COE students. Classes that went to the library found it more relaxed and useful to them after one of the new librarian's, Miss Gibadlo, tours and explanations of the Dewey Decimal System. Social studies classes were required of students for their junior and senior years. American History and Constitution gave an over-all look of the society in which we live and the way it functions. An elective world history course was also offered. I. Miss Plamann is interrupted by the camera while grading students' papers. 2.
