Jazz Ensemble Performs Winning Music Combos The Jazz Ensemble with thirteen members was a group of students who played straight jazz, rock, and blues. The group has gone to a Jazz Festival on Jan. 13 and were judged excellent. The new band teacher, Mr. Stewart led the active group. l. Chuck Mote and David Stovall practice on the horns. 2. 106 Choir Concerts Keep Choir Singing Throughout Y The Concert Choir, along with a few other students attended the op- era, Madama Butterfly. They also put on several concerts and also per- formed for the junior high and ele- mentary schools. A few of the beginning students were chosen for the Christmas Con- cert. Everyone sings in the spring concert. Carla Clements, Rachel Phipps and Suzanne Hall received superior ratings at regional tryouts. l. Actors Present Serious Play, Melodrama, Must George Orwell's l984 and Joseph Kesslring's Arsenic and Old Lace were presented by the Drama Department first semester. l984, their first production, featured Steve Rockwell as the lead character, Winston Smith, with Tina Smith as Julia. 1984 took a dramatic look into the not too distant future, where Big Brother will rule the world. Arsenic and Old Lace, a melodrama offered characters Abby Brewster by Dee Davis and Martha Brewster by Denise Dewey. The two sweet old ladies poisoned old lonely people. Their insane nephew Teddy, who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt, helps them. The ones mainly responsible for the construction of the sets were Bill Delfs, Ralph Wilson, Monica Hassinger and Dee Davis. The third production was the musical, The King and I, which was presented with the Music Department. l.
