lndividuals dominate spring sports competition Spring athletic teams worked dilegently to represent Marana at its best. ln boys' track, Ernie Robles placed third at state in the shot put. Another outstanding performance was given by Mandy Langford in gymnastics, who brought her team with- in two points against CDO, the team that finished second in state. A relay team from boys' track also participated in the state meet after placing in divisionals held at Marana. Softball, under the direction of its first male coach, Mr. Acker, improved over last year's season. The team's over-all efforts brought them close to fourth in state. The entire boys' tennis team and two of the girls' also qual- ified for state. 1. Steve Somerville practices the long jump. 2. Kim Dobbie drops the bat after a line-drive and runs toward first. 3. Mandy Langford gains points to push her team into a close meet with CDO. 4. Mike Franco hits an outfield grounder. 5. Ernie Robles, who placed at state, practices with the shotput. 6. Annette Altamirano pitches a low curve. 7. Mr. Newman gives a few pointers before the game to Craig Bratton. 8. Girls tracksters complete a pass in the 440-relay. 9.
