si -si 4 5 Softball team overcomes The softball team began its season with two changes. One change was male coaches, who were Joe Acker and Bill Ludeke. An effort to expand to a junior varsity level was the other dif- ference. Almost thirty girls signed up, which gave more chances for building a highly competitive program. Brenda Samuelson, one of the six returning members, will play her fourth year of softball. The team hoped to build strength for years to come. With only four seniors and a majority of freshmen, this may be accomplished. 1. Laura Romo practices batting for a perfect 1,000. 2. Mercy Lerma awaits the ball, while Diane Young strives to reach second base before the ball does. 3. Marcy Sickman works on bunting. 4. Brenda Samuelson drops the bat for a quick run to first, after hitting a solid grounder. 5. Softball team members are QFirst Rowj Esmeralda Francisco, Teresa Mendoza, Susan Racine and Laura Romo CSecond Rowb Tony Castillo, manager, Cindy Criss, Tuesday Pierson and Fawn Hepner fThird Rowj Coach Ludeke, Kim Dobbie, Tammy Richens, Jean- nette Balcezak, Annette Altamirano, Carolynn Pearson, Brenda Samuelson, Laura Rockhold, Laura Welsh, Diane Young, and Coach Acker.
