Tigers falter early in divisional tourney The Tigers ended an exciting winning sea- son in Nogales when they lost to Douglas by a score of 61-60 in second round divisionals. The final score tells the story of the whole game as the gap never went higher than eight points, with the score being tied at 30 during halftime. The Tigers did well in conference play, as they defeated Flowing Wells, San Manuel and Safford twice. Although they dropped both contests with Canyon Del Oro, they did split meetings with Nogales, Douglas and Globe. Marana finished in a tie for third with Douglas in the AA South finishing with a 9-5 conference record and a 13-6 overall record. James Taylor, who led the Tigers in scor- ing, was named to the first team all-confer- ence squad. Making the second team was Le- roy Berry. Honorable mention went to Billy Combs, Danny Harry and Fleet Phillips. 1. Coach Acker explains calmly what has to be done. 2. Carl Lee demonstrates excellent shooting form. 3. Cubs struggle through mid season slum What appeared to be the begin- nings of an undefeated season, took a disasterous turn midway in the season when the Cubs en- countered a series of defeats starting with Globe, thus ending a nine-game winning steak. The Cubs entered this year's action with three returning mem- bers, forward Steve Watson, cen- ter Gary Ward and forward Clay Parsons. ln an attempt to regain the team's winning ways, Coach Calli- cotte changed the starting line-up to utilize the taller players, turn- ing the tide against Nogales. With this combination of return- ing players, Coach Callicotte has assembled another winning team. 1.
