Kittens' talents begin to develop The Marana Kittens ended up with a 3-6 season. Even though the re- cord didn't end up very well, they had a lot of spirit. Due to their aver- age size in comparison to the other freshmen in cnference, they had to fight hard and they never gave up. Under coaches Chris March and Danny Catt, the Kittens depended upon their small but tough line, and the running ability of Gene Lemme, who was named outstanding of the team's members at the awards ban- quet. The outstanding lineman was Phillip Young. 1. Gene Lemme attempts a tackle on a Doug- las Bulldog. 2. Gene Lemme shows his run- ning talents. 3. Cross countrymen race to league bottom Marana's cross country team again found com- peting in the AA South division difficult. Serving as host for the conference divisionals did not bring the Tigers good luck as they still placed last. The AA south was a very powerful division this year, according to Coach Brady. Flowing Wells domi- nated the tough division all year as they placed first in the AA South, with CDO finishing second. We were a better team than our record C12-215 showed, stated Coach Brady. He went on to say that seven of the nine runners who completed the season will be returning to next year's squad, so we did have mostly underclassmen competing and con- sistently finishing in the top ten. Basically it was an inconsistancy of our top three runners to place high. 1, Runners anxiously await the sound of the gun to start the race. 2. Dave Smith and Mr. Nystrom cheer Pat Ward onto the finish. 3, Martin Pena pulls ahead of the crowd. 4. Cross country team members are Steve Smith, Dave Smith, Mike Benitez, Keith Woods, Steve Benitez, Pat Ward, Martin Walker, Alan Copenhaver and Martin Walker, 5.
