ough conference, injuries force 2-7 season A tough season's beginning faced coaches Paul Graham and Larry Casoni's Tigers as two of Marana's first three opponents were the final contenders for the state Class AA crown. The Tigers dropped their first three games against Gilbert, Eloy, and CDO before upsetting the Flowing Wells Caballeros at their homecoming by a spectacular 31-19. The next games against Douglas and Safford ended in Tiger defeats. The Tigers found themselves another homecoming to upset by beating Globe 20-12. The final two games, in- cluding Marana's own homecoming, resulted in losses. Injuries forced two players, Bill Post and Wayne Jackson, to miss most of the season. Sidelined for several games were Jim Somerville, Eddie Payne, Fernie Lopez, Art Rodri- guez and Larry Walker. By the Tigers' final game, quarter- back Craig Bratton and several others were out for the season, leaving a varsity squad of 18 and a number of junior varsity players to face San Maneul. Though team efforts were often futile, individual perfor- mances were recognized by the Class AA South conference. Named to the first team defense and the second team offensive units was Carl Lee. Second team players were Dan Ramsey and Art Rodriguez. Earning honorable mention were Craig Bratton, Troy Denton, Avery White, Bruce Darby and Russell Barker. 1.
