These are the familiar words which are heard the first thing in the morning. The announcements in the morning tell everyone the news and views of the school, and also tell which persons should report to detention that day. Our group of announcers are probably the most wide-awake people in schoolwbefore first period-except, of course, the teachers. You are required to have taken a course in speech and radio, before becoming a morning announcer. Tryouts are held and seven announc- ers are chosen by our supervisor and then a captain is selected. Our seven announcers are chosen for their speaking abilityAtone quality, articulation, etc.-and their ability to read well. It is the duty of the captain, Anna Mae Constantino, to see that the announcements and equipment are in tip-top shape. On special mornings, as we call them, when we know of a birthday or anniversary, you may even be lucky to hear a song sung by the Off Pitch Quartet. Germana, K. Maresh. A DIARY FOR THE HIGH-Y There are many things that a diary can have for the Hi-Y. At the beginning of the school year there was much to be done. We joined the new Southeast YMC.-X and our club's membership was doubled. Our activities at the Y are ones of companionship and fun. Swim- ming is our best sport. I remember the good times we had when meet- ing was adjourned and everyone would assemble for sportsmenlike fun in the swimming pool and exercise room. There are also annual activities outside the Y which the diary may have. The hay ride is one outstanding festival that will always be re- membered. The atmosphere of the festival is one that is merry and full of fun. Everyone sticks together as brothers, and thus, bettering our model of getting along together. Another memory for a diary was our social party. Last of all, the annual High-Y dance is the biggest social gathering of the year. This is our only source of income. XVith the money we plan our other activities. In conclusion, I will always remember, A Diary for the High-Y. Auld BACKBO E BEHI D THE SCENES Four years ago I became a member of a service organization called the Stage Crew, and up to now have not regretted one full-packed minute of it. It is not only a service organization for the school, but a help to us, because we learn while we work. We learn to produce sound effects, to work with metals and wood, to wire, fix furniture, to set and operate auditorium and stage light- ing, to set up and operate public address and amplifier systems, to build and fix sets, to change scenery between acts ofa play in a hurry, and many other things vital to a stage crew. Wle are boys in grades nine thru twelve, who are interested in working hard, in wanting to learn, and in having fun doing it. XVe like to work with mechanical things, and most of' us have taken up the industrial arts courses being offered in our school. We work not only during plays, assemblies, etc., but also during our free periods, for at least one of us is on the stage at all times, including before and after school. YYe work as a team, doing anything that needs to be done to make a show a success. The gang and I also work for other programs that might take place in our auditorium, such as PTA meet- ings, Boy Scout meetings, and dance recitals. Our advisor is Mr. Dale Myers, who teaches industrial arts and drivers' training. Our crew captain is Bob Auld, whose interests lie mostly in working with the proper stage lighting. I must say I enjoyed those four years! 24 T - . 52
