Aghteen NIR t'IIARlil'1S MOUNTAIN STREAMS How often have l sat beside a mountain stream and wondered why and how sueh an enormous amount of activity ean go on, day after day, month after month, year after year and still never heeome worn out or even the least hit tired. llow different the activity of this plaeid stream is from the more or less aimless activities in which we find ourselves engaged. lf we encounter an oh- struetion which stops ns, we fuss and fume, work ourselves into a lather and accomplish little or noth- ing, hut not so the stream. lt merely tur11s aside and runs around the ohstaele, or, if this is inipossihle. it quietly hack up until its pressure removes the oh- struetion, or it keeps on hacking' up until it rims over the obstruction and eontinues on its way. I wonder how much We humans could accomplish if we, like the mountain stream, would keep on per- sistently attaoking our problems? Perhaps we too 1-ould dig at valley a thousand feet deep and a hun- dred miles long, as Clear Creek has done. ls it Worth trying?
