Colorado Is a Spam-ish Word .llcmzing fColo-red Rc1l ' LANGUAGE STEPPIN G into a language room, We find an atmosphere steeped in deep mystiication. Each pupil frantically studies the next sentence, hoping that he will not be called upon. The person reciting proceeds hesitantly, praying that he is pronouncing the Words correctly. Cases, conjugations and participles mean more mystery. Grim and deter- mined looks pervade as pupils prepare to dig in and clear up the mystery for all time. Time flies by, and when the strange Words are mentioned again, smiles wreath many faces. After all, they are just little letters that you tack together to make Words. The next problem is to learn the Words. In another room, a bull fight is being fought. The toreador and bull circle slowly and intently round and round. The bull angered, charges fiercely, the toreador side-steps swiftly, swishing a red cloth in front of the bull's distorted face. A rtisls In Metal INDUSTRIAL ARTS A DEAFENING roar greets us as we enter the school machine shop. A blast furnace melts a piece of metal, which is then shaped, and again be- comes solid and firm. The endless slapping of belts, pounding and whining of machines makes a ceaseless bedlam, but all the while useful and beautiful articles are made. A warning bell rings and all machines groan to a stop, silence reigns throughout. The odor of freshly cut lumber fills the atmosphere as a whistling saw parts a board. The vibration of powerful motors rocks the room as the odor of hot glue fills the air. Many pieces of beautifully made furniture await the finishing touch. In another room, a printing press rolls tirelessly. The pungent smell of ink permeates the air. Meanwhile, a large stack of programs take form. Stillness-ghostly quiet, is the atmosphere of a mechanical drawing class. The slight movement of a T square or triangle is heard as students construct fine blue prints. . - I .
