We seem to be standing between the known and the unknown, the new and the old, the established and the experimental. These are foremost in our thinking and we are never free from the challenge they present. Our economic and social advances have been temporarily interrupted. We are chal- lenged to show that we have the individual and social qualities that are required for dealing successfully with the forced adjustments of a changing world. The challenge is to our capacity to function in a democracy, to our sanity and common sense, to our organizing capacities, to the faith of our fathers,- life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
