The Elementary School, one of the newest buildings on campus, is an impressive modern structure especially designed to fit the educa- tional needs of growing children. This school guides the child from the kindergarten through the sixth grade. The curriculum includes all the traditional subjects of reading, writing, and arithmetic plus music, art, and industrial arts. The main emphasis is on the social studies. The laboratory school provides the children with a fine education for living. It is here that much of the foundation is laid for later life. The atmosphere of the school is strikingly democratic. Every room is in charge of a supervisor who has the double responsibility of teaching the children and guiding the student teacher. Junior Ensemble Brass Ensemble Department The Music Department wishes to take this opportunity to welcome the ex- servicemen back to the campus. By next year the department expects to have a regular peacetime enrollment. This department is one of the most active groups on and off campus. In addition to the many assembly and Vesper programs, the students participate in Sunday musicales and recitals, lead group singing and assembly hymns, and provide cultural as well as entertaining programs in their regular meetings. Again this year, emphasis was placed on small ensemble work, in prepara- tion for better band and orchestra organizations.
