SPEECH 26 GIRLS’ BOYS’ STATE Nancy Ezzard Secretary of State STATE Bob Reynolds Treasurer One girl and six boys were chosen from Mansfield Senior High to go to Girls' State and Boys' State. Girls' State was held at Capitol University In Columbus and Boys' at Ohio University in Athens. The first two days consisted of campaigns and elections. Within a day after arriving, the campus was transformed by millions of campaign posters hanging from trees, buildings, and In the halls. Nixon and Pat local candidates. Students received campaign material at Democratic and Republican booths. Also an assembly was presented to acquaint the students with local candidates. 30 Students preparing to cast their vote. CHRISTMAS BASKETS Joan Wagner - General Chairman} Harvey Welker Delivery Chairman. This year's service project, sponsored by' Student Council, was very successful. Under the supervision of Mr. Herman Bishop, Supervisor; Joan Wagner, General Chairman; and Harvey Welker, Delivery Chairman; thirty students prepared 175 baskets that were taken to needy homes of students of M. H. S .. 31 OPEN HOUSE Helpers hard at work taking attendance. Open House is an opportunity for the teachers and parents of the students to become better acquainted. The students filled out schedules which their parents followed. Refreshments were served afterwards. Parents enjoying refreshments 32 Mr. Poffenbaugh answers questions concerning Biology. Mrs. Harris informs parents of students program in Chemistry. COLLEGE NIGHT Mr. George Sherman, Mr. Richard King, and Mrs. Virginia Imhoff. Mr. Paul Manuel tells about Miami University. For many students college night affords an opportunity to become better acquainted with the various colleges. Many representatives from different colleges of Ohio attend this annual affair. 33 CAREER NIGHT At Senior High School's fourth annual Career Night, many parents and high school students learned about 58 careers from Mansfield business, prof ession al and trade leaders. The program was sponsored by the Kiwanls and Rotary Clubs of Mansfield and Mansfield Senior High School Guidance Department. Refreshments were served at the conclusion. One of Mansfield's favorite athletic sons, Bill Doolittle, returned to Senior High School this fall as head football coach and athletic dire ctor. He was captain and quarterback of the 1941 Tygcr team, which Is regarded by many as the finest in Mansfield Annals. He won two letters at Ohio State as a quarterback and served under Buckeye Coaches Paul Brown, Paul Blxlcr, and Wes Feslcr. After his Ohio State chores, Doolittle was head football coach at Grandview Heights and he spent two years as a backficld coach on the Brown University team. Then came a season as backfield coach at Canton Lincoln and two years as head coach at Owosso, Mich. Doolittle then coached six years at Flint (Mich) Central winning 37 games, losing 14, and tying 3. He had one undefeated and two once beaten teams at Flint and his 1958 club won the Michigan State title. Senior High School welcomes Coach Doolittle. This year the Pep Club cleaned the trophy cases, sold pencils and shakers, decorated the goal posts , planned pep and awards assemblies, rewrote their constitution and played host for the Spring Sports Banquet.
