Where you are and what you are doing today is due to what you did in the many yesterdays making up today. Where you will be and what you will be doing in the many tomorrows to come will be determined by the sum total of what you have done in the yesterdays and todays. Captain Ron Gentili led the Hornets, who were usually on the lighter side, through one of the toughest schedules in recent years. The dazzling Hornet offense averaged 22 points per game while the defense held the opposition to 10 points per game. The team came through with brilliant victories three weeks in succession; stopping tough Case 16-6, Attleboro 16-14, and North Attleboro 8-0. Much of the credit for the successful season can be given to Coaches Parsons, Sullivan, and Cunningham who de- voted many hours towards the team. Led by Captain Ron Gentili, the whole backfield including Brent McCoy, Ralph Maxwell, and Billy Day scored at least one touchdown. The highlight of the game was a 50-yard pass from Gentili to end Ken Picciandra. The forward wall, led by Bob Dutton and Jose Vieira, opened gaping holes for their backs. MANSFIELD 42—FRANKLIN 0 The Hornets unleashed their one-man team against a mediocre Franklin team. Captain Ron Gentili scored touchdowns on runs of 17 yards, 32 yards, 40 yards, and 50 yards. Brent McCoy added another touchdown and _ then Gentili capped off the scoring with a sensational 78-yard interception. Defensively, the forward wall of Dutton, Knight, Grozier, and Markt had little trouble handling the Franklin attack. MANSFIELD 0—OLIVER AMES 12 A very powerful Oliver Ames squad journeyed to Memorial Park to play the Hornets. Outmanned and out-weighed at every position, the Hornets tried gamely to recover from early Easton touchdowns. On fourth and goal Brent McCoy was stopped on the two-inch line with Mansfield’s only scor- ing threat. End Jim Knight and tackle Bob Dutton contained the flashy Easton running game. MANSFIELD 32—CANTON 12 Rebounding from the past week, the Hornets unleashed a powerful at- tack against a heavier Canton team. Captain Ron Gentili scored twenty points on line plunges and a 58-yard run. Bill Day ran for another tally. Highlighting the scoring was a 45-yard scoring pass from quarterback, Ralph Maxwell to halfback, Brent McCoy. A spirited line of Bob Markt, Fred Collingwood, Bob Dutton, John Grozier, and Jim Knight led the charge against Canton. MANSFIELD 40—KING PHILIP 16 The high-scoring ways of the Hornets continued as they demolished the single-wing attack of King Philip. The defensive line led by Bob Dutton, Dick Staples, John Grozier, Jim Knight, and Dick Gordon stopped their attack cold. Offensively, the Hornets racked up the highest point total of the season. Captain Ron Gentili scored on runs of 27, 36, and 95 yards. Billy Day added a 5-yard plunge to the cause. MANSFIELD 16—CASE 6 Undefeated Case High of Swansea invaded Memorial Park ready to maul the Hornets. Playing a team their own size for the first time this year, the Hornets never let up. Captain Ron Gentili led his team with touchdown runs of 28 yards and 91 yards. Another 65-yard run was called back because of clipping. Clearing the way for the backs were Fred Collingwood, Bob Dutton, Jose Vieira, and Bob Markt. MANSFIELD 16—ATTLEBORO 14 The Green Hornet Eleven turned in a very fine performance for the second week in a row. Captain Ron Gentili scored two touchdowns, one 85 yards and the other 14 yards. Doug Murphy and Brent McCoy added the valuable extra points. McCoy literally walked across with the winning extra points. The Hornets fought a heavier squad from the opening. Bob Dutton, Fred Collingwood, and Leo Gentili led the forward wall. Jack Ricardo led the defensive team with the two game-saving interceptions. MANSFIELD 8—NORTH ATTLEBORO 0 The Hornets scored another impressive victory by defeating North. The Green and White was led by Captain Ron Gentili, who scored the only touchdown. Bob Markt, center, accounted for the two-point conversion. The Hornets were determined to win and outplayed the North squad in evety way. The Hornet line was at its best and opened several important holes. MANSFIELD 6—FOXBORO 12 The Hornets went down in defeat for the second time this season. Foxboro outplayed the Hornets right to the end. The only Mansfield touchdown was scored by end Jim Knight on a pass from Captain Ron Gentili. The Green and White forward wall was paced by John Grozier, Bob Dutton, and Bob Markt. The Hornets ended the season with an impressive 7 and 2 record. 97 98 “Now, Coach, now?” “Get that ball’’ “We stopped OA once!” “T need some help” “Kinda messy, boys” Wanted by opposing coaches Ronald Anthony Gentili fo 1.
