By turning out one of the most powerful offenses seen in many a year Mansfield won five out of the next six games including the upset of pre- viously undefeated Case, the cru-shing of arch-rival North Attleboro, and last, but not least, the annual Turkey Day Classic over Foxboro. CLASS PROPHECY OF 1957 By MICHAEL MARTIN The time is I968 and after my many years of dreaming about a trip to the Hawaiian Islands this dream is about to become a reality The taxi that is to take me to the station lust pulled up in front of the house and as I step into it l see the smiling face Paul Copparini Paul is doing very well since he now owns the only taxi company in Mans field As we drove down Main Street I noticed the office of Todesco and Carl It seems that John Todesco and Edward Carl have combined their fathers companies so that one builds the oil burners and the other keeps them supplied I also noticed DeCIementes Hat Shop run by the very capable Madam Rita Just as we neared the station I spotted three women pushing baby carriages I quickly recognized them as Roberta Scarpellini Geraldine Garriepy and Rosalie Todesco It seems that they now have nine children among them As I stepped inside of the station I said hello to station master Ron Titus and sat down to await my train My eyes quickly fell on the beautiful legs of the countrys most success ful model Ida DePalma who was waiting for the train to Boston In the course of our con versation I learned that Barbara DePalma was happily married and that Idas boss of all people was James Eastman head of a very successful model agency We both laughed when I happened to mention that Jim always had quite an eye for curves Finally my train to Providence arrived so I bid Ida goodbye and climbed aboard On the train I glanced through a magazine and spotted two articles which seemed very interesting The first was called Why I Defend High School Bands by Katherine Paine and the second Whats Buzzing in Hollywood by Beverly CCall me nosyj Briggs A the conductor came towards me I noticed that it was Bruce Beutell When I asked him whether or not my tickets were in order I wasnt too surprised when he answered yup the new TV comedy show Laugh With Warren Morse The title of the show struck me as very funny since that was all we did during our last four years of school with Warren The poster also stated that the writers of this comedy show were Judith Anderson and Pat Chandler When I entered the smoking car I noticed a man surrounded by reporters It was none other than Senator Herbert Baptiste the greatest orator in Washington One of the reporters Ralph DiChiara was in the process of asking him to whom he owed his success I was quite surprised when he answered I owe everything to my efficient secretary Miss Claire Annese Just then his barber Robert Morrison and his manicurist Carol Hough ton arrived and the news conference came to an end Soon my train arrived in Providence Station and I went directly to Information to ask on what track my train to New York was The sign on the desk read Miss Joyce Davidson She quickly told me on track 2 and I went immediately to my train As I sat down I glanced across the aisle and saw Mary Lou Pedini She told me that she was now married and lived in New York but was lust returning from visiting an old friend Jean Mathews who was married to her childhood sweetheart As the time passed on we found ourselves talking about our school days and our classmates Mary Lou mentioned that Fran Chaves owned a large theater in New York headlined by that well known strongman Albert fl let people tie me upl Viscardi I asked her if she had heard anything from her old school chum Judy Briggs and she told me that Judy was in Paris vacationing with her third husband The name of Betty Wrona came up and Mary Lou said that she was now working for the Voice of America She went on to say that the Russians are going haywire since it is one voice they cant shut out I decided that it was about time I did a little talking so I told her that three of our classmates were doing very well in Mansfield Joan McRae is the town Librarian and Arthur Goodwin and Lee Kingsbury are partners in a garage Lee wrecks the has ' ' , ' ' ' of , . . , I I ' - STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY On March 8, a student from every city in Massachusetts will attend Student Government Day at the State House. Weston Bartlett will represent Mansfield and John Pomfret is his alternate. Certain students are chosen for official positions and preside over the meeting. This gives the future citizens an opportunity to un- derstand the function of state government. The platforms of the candidates helped the students determine who they wanted to reprnsent them. WECJON BARTLETT-REPRESENTATIVE L will vote yes on the Junior College at U. of Mass. I will vote no on the TX, sales tax. I will vote no on raising the drivers' age to eighteen. JOHN PONIFRET-ALTERNATE I would advocate a TX, sales tax in the present state income tax. I would not favor the reducing of voting age to eighteen. I would like to see licenses for automobiles remain at sixteen. Also, I would like to reduce insurance rates for automobile owners under twenty-five. GORDON ENNIS I would favor reducing the gasoline tax. I think the state should enlarge its conservation program. I am in favor of having more state parks and beaches. I think that the automobile rates for owners under twenty-five should be reduced. MALCOLM LEONARD I think that the voting age should be lowered to eighteen. I favor keeping the age for drivers' licenses at sixteen. MICHAEL MARTIN I would like Mansfield and other communities to have a Teenage Canteen. EDWARD SHEEHY I would like to start a Junior R.O.T.C. in high school. Automobile insurance rates for owners under twenty-five should be reduced. I would like to see a state aid set up for students to further their education. , M..,.L, w5k,lf,,, .W 1 fa f.,, 2 Q 91 N194 Q hi ,WW :fa Y .,..yy N,,, ,H if vw 4 ywvgf , JS4 Ag Agn T gg.
