Creativity eme in sSpeecli curnaiivm com- Mansfield High School offers one course in Speech. The class is offered to Seniors. It demonstrates the art of the spoken wore through self expression. Sludenis enrolled in Journalism gain practical experience for future jobs with newspapers, magazines, and publishing c panics. In addition to Speech and Journalism Mansfield offers Choir and Band. Mr. James Hamilton teaches both Choir and Band. He received his BME from Henderson State College. Mr. Edmond Brewer teaches Journalism. He received his AS from Arkansas Tech. His BSA and MEd from the University of Arkansas, and additional graduate work from U. of A. All members in the Speech class doing the Can-Can. Mike Whittaker. Pam Hope, Neil Hurt, Charlene Moore, Chuck Chapman, and Vicky Carlton relive a scene in “Dogpatch.” Journalism class cuts out newspaper articles to use in their notebooks. Mike Whittaker, Phil Baker, Chuck Chapman, and Rick Carlton ir Speech class does a scene in “Coming Around the Mountain.” 18

The knowledge, altitudes, and non-vocational skills needed l persons to be effective in iheir personal economic life and in iheir understanding our economic system. 2. The voca- tional knowledge and skills needed for initial employment and for advancement in a luisiness career. Our program deals with l oth of these factors. Miss Barbara Browning teaches the business courses al WHS. Miss Browning received her BS from Arkansas Tech, and a MEd from the University of Arkansas. 17

2» ure ionxemaUer sStucly 0ariou6 «Subjecta A well-organized home is the dream of even girl. Home Economics is used in almost any field that you go into. This course is an elective hut most people take it at least two years. All of the ways and ideas of doing this are taught and practiced in the Home Economics I through III. Throughout the years, the girls learn the techniques and skills of sew ing, the art of cooking, and the basics of planning a home. The courses of Home Economics are also devoted to trying to strengthen the bonds U tween families and communities by broadening the scope of youth activities and to help youth comprehend the problems of society and their solutions. Mrs. Sue Ward teaches all of the Home Ec onomies classes. She re- ceived her BSHE from the University of Arkansas. 19
