THE DEVIL 1967-1968 MANLIUS HIGH SCHOOL MANLIUS, ILLINOIS OFFICERS Editor--Hilary Carlson Asst. Editor--Robin Jensen Advertising Manager--Anita Schmidt Finance Manager--Ruby Mohr Photographer--Jerry Jacobson Advisor—Mr. Eugene Burton Manlius High is truly an action school. Every student here participates in at least one extracurricular activity, some belong to three or four, and many belong to almost all of them. M.H.S. has fine teachers and facilities. It also has a very high scholastic average with many graduates going on to college and other institutions of higher learning. The extra-curricular program at Manlius is geared to making the graduate a well-rounded individual. He can do journalistic work on the newspaper and annual staffs. He can gain self-confidence through the plays put on by the Dramatics Club. He can participate in athletics. Girls can also be in athletics by joining G.A.A. she can become a better homemaker through her membership in F.H.A. The boys are able to learn more about farming in F.F.A. These are only a few things a student does at M.H.S. When he leaves he has a fairly good idea of what he wants to be, and the training he has received at Manlius High will help him. 2 3 Close your eyes and hold out your hand. Twenty-six graduates left M.H.S. for New York and Washington on May 30 after a lengthy wait for the bus. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed (?) the bus trip. In New York we saw Radio City Music Hall, the Cheetah Club, the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty (which we all stupidly climbed up), and other places. One of Ron's many loves on the trip. Notice the smiles BEFORE the trip. (at left) a New York pigeon 31 Our little wait to get into Radio City Music Hall View from the Empire State Building Sunday we left New York for another bus ride to Washington. There we saw the Wax Museum, the Capitol, the White House, Supreme Court, the Pentagon (which we all LOVED), and other points of interest. We all liked our trip to Arlington, and Mount Vernon. On our way home we had a thrilling tour of Gettysburg. Then again we boarded our bus for the ride home. It was really exciting, especially since hardly any of us had ever been to a party at the White House. We always knew KARLA (CARPENTER) was a great leader, but to be elected President of the United States! Did you know that MARY ISAACSON is her press secretary? She got pretty good practice as Mrs. Simon's secretary. BABETTE was there, too. I was really surprised when she was elected the Democratic Senator from Arizona,, beating Coldwater. SUE THOMPSON gave up her title as the world's leading beautician last year to become Karla's private hairdresser. AL DeDECKER was there and you'll never guess what he is now. A priest! He always was pious and clean-cut. RUBY MOHR is now the head nurse at Perry Memorial. JIM HOCHSTATTER got there just covered with lipstick. He's now the All-American playboy. You wouldn't believe how much DENNIS VOLS has changed. He was just made president of Alcoholics Anonymous a few months ago. KATHY BOYCE was there writing a story about it for LIFE, of which she is now editor. She's also the editor of LOOK, POST, and JACK G JILL. Not far from Kathy, as usual, were Marsha Konneck and Marleta Schmidt. MARSHA is still a go-go girl in California. MARLETA is now a full time church secretary, but still finds time to run a pheasant farm. DARRELL ANDERSON ran all the way from Illinois to keep in shape. He turned a pro athlete after winning 68 gold medals in the Olympics. MIKE MICHLIG owns Texaco and is known across the country as The man who wears the star. MIKE THOMPSON wasn't able to be there. He's still in the Navy and he was just made an Admiral. CHRIS CHESSER is a CPA at Rich's Ag Service. She got her practice working at the high school office. PAUL KLEINAU left the party early. He's driving in the Indianapolis 500 next week. Have you seen LaVERN ANDERSON on TV yet? He took over the part of Captain Kangaroo. DAVE WOLFORD plays the part of Grandfather Clock. I guess he really likes it. He gets to sleep a lot. DEANNA ROMBOUT has become a high fashion model. She models dresses designed by MARJORIE HANSEN. CONNIE HANSEN has just written a new book called 1001 ways to keep house. DAVID RODGERS has opened a resort on the canal where he rents OUT paddle boats. RICH NODINE is the head janitor and butler at the White House. RON FRANK has finally earned his nickname. He now farms all of Oklahoma. JACK JACQUES has just returned from playing an engagement at the Stork Club. He's still with the same group, but with a different name. Of course, DAVE PRESNELL was with Jack. Dave is the head of a reform school, formerly known as good old Manlius High. NEIL KNUDSON has changed his ways and now owns and operates a barber shop. DENNY DRAPER went on to greater things from being the pop man of our class. He handled the catering service for the party. DIANE LICKHART is a private secretary to an executive of AT G T. Since my last picture I've made a quick trip to India to see the Maharishie and I feel much better. It's too bad you couldn't have been there to see everyone, but I know, ANITA, that your first love is the Opera. And there aren't very many people who get a 2 year engagement at the Metropolitan Opera House. Maybe you'll be at our next reunion.
