THE CLASS GF 42 BGWS QUT GPqQSl USS QCOPC IN THE FALL of 1939 the largest Sophomore class on record two hundred and thrrty seven rn number began therr hrgh school careers under therr elected leaders Marshall Walker presrdent Wrlma Ward vrce presrdent and Earl Mrller sec retary trea urer Marjorre Correll and Ray Throck morton were successful rn therr campargns for Stu dent Councrl representatrves That thrs class of 42 rs qurte dramatre was frrst evrdenced bv the erstrng of twelve sophomores rn the GR Hr K play Remember the Day Mem bers of the class havrng parts were Marjorre Cor rell Dorothy Krey Betty Jean Yapp Kenneth Stewart Don Kerth Betty Gall Parker Bettre Srack Marranna Snarr Patrrcra Barclay Bob Swan Jean Pollom and Dorothy Lou Wrlson The Sophomore s contrrbutron to the Manhattan football team was shrfty and speedy Guy Brown The frrst school dance the elass attended was the Prgskrn Prom at whrch Matt Betton and hrs or chestra played To basketball was presented Earl Mrller who earned hrs letter through hrs abrlrty as a guard Engene Crrrmes was eleeted secretarv for the followrng Vear ef the Junror Academy of Scrence rn Krnsas at the Screnee Conventron held rn Wrch r a Trkrng advantage of the school board s new al lowance of erght school dances a year the clas gave the trrst Sophomore dance rn MHS on May 6 1 40 HF SLMNIER of 1940 passed qurcklv as all summers do and preparatrons were made to start s hool September 9 Because of lnfantrle parfrlysrs how ex er school was postponed Barrmg one day September 23 another month of vacatrorr was added x 1th school startrng rn a very concen trated way on October 6 After a short spectacular campargn the grrls won out rn the class electron placrng Wrlrra Ward as presrdent Bettre Srack as vrce presrdent and Brown Burton as secretarv treasurer Councrlors were Betty Jean Yapp and Kenneth Stewart Contrrbutrng to the C R H1Y drama productron Smrlrn Through were Marjorre Correll Kenneth stewart Don Kerth Dorothy lxrey and Betty Jean app Thrrtx three members of the class recerved schol arshrp awrrds for work done rn therr sophomore year Football lettermen rncluded Earl Mrller Guy Brown Vaughn Lundberg Bob Walters Johnny Nl mr Morale' r l l 1 Luk xx e-rghrngrn eftre-rent sec url s rot bl-ex I ll I rr nu r lmlc+Je an rr wr nr rn urrr g let s nr rkeup--rm re p r ser n urn r e 1 so 1 uwfl pl these I N XIIJI I s UPFILI Bull P ruhnn Xrce Presr urn I Walters Sure-trrx Tre rsurer Dlck Mullin I resrdent Inman Paul Newell Bob Toburen Lharles Boren, and Lee Gregory The Junror class gave an all school party the Hrgh School Frolre rn a successful attempt to rarse money for the Junror Senror At the close of the basketball season rn whrch Earl Sam Mrller B1llFaubron Bob Toburen cerxed letters a banquet followed for the frrst trme by a dance was grven rn honor of the basket ball boys Vrrgrnra Lrnn and Bettre Sraek represented the Junror grrls on the Grrl Reserve cabrnet On the H1 Y cabrnet were Kenneth Stewart Paul Owensbv and Don Messenhermer Ray Throckmorton succeeded Gene Grlmes as secretary of the Junror Academy of Scrence The class presented a the annual Junror Class play an old fashroned meller dramer Pure As the Drrven Snow Srxteen Junrors had stage parts whrle a number of others were on the stage crew On March frrst the Senrors entertamed the Jun ror class 'rt r port dance carrred out rn red whrte and blue Our own school swrng band furnrshed the musrc and rhythm needed for a much enjoyed evenmg In response the Junrors muted the Senror class to a semr formal banquet and dance whose theme centered around the wrshrng well To all who attended thr was an unforgettable evenrng -Xnd thus passed therr Junror vear S THE MEMBERS of the Senror Class of 1949 they began the school year rn earnest Dlck Nled rn Brll Faubron and Bob Walters were elected to take charge of the class busrness whrle Dorothy Lou Wrlson and YVendell Obenland were chosen to represent the class on the Student IL ntrnued on Ia e New-rrreerrl 7 v .
