It has been the most exciting experience in my life, to come to a foreign country and share a new experience with a lovely Ameri- can family and community, and a very dif- ferent school, full of perspectives and en- thusiasm for it’s future, with hundreds of nice kids who I have enjoyed very much. All the plans I made many months ago have been only the beginning of all kind of wonderful moments once I dreamt to live here. This experience is coming and going so fast, that I feel I’ll go back to my country very soon, but I’ll leave my heart and my love to all of you, and keep Manchester in me forever. I have realized the incomparable value of 21 learning to live, share, understand and ac- cept people like they are, and that it’s really worth working with the A.F.S. Exchange Program, to let young people from all over the world live in a foreign country. Help A.F.S. to help you. I hope you will be able to fly to Ecuador and enjoy that small paradise as much as I have enjoyed the USA. If so, contact me. Ximena Valarezo L. Buenos Aires 411 y Juan Larrea Quito-Ecuador, S.A. El Ecuador les abre su corazon y les da su saludo de bienvenida

How can one possibly describe something as intangible as an AFS experience? It is so much more than the mere physical aspects of a new country, new customs, new sights, and a totally new way of life. It is also maturing, adapting, learning to accept others, close family relationships, and the development of a new set of val- ues on life. It is the happiness of new friend- ships and the sorrow of the end-of- summer good-byes. My experience physically ended on September sec- ond when I returned to the States, however, the knowledge of life that I gained, the culture I have learned, the maturity I have acquired, and the friendships I have established will be with me forever.
