Our captain now no more will guide The ship that was his greatest pride. The task is left to eager hands To steer our ship to distant lands. Your firm support upon the shore Will spur us on-the conqueror. And in the cold of raging storm Our mem'ries here our hearts shall warm. We'll steer a course that's straight and true Until there rises to our view The land where cherished hopes shall be Pulfilled-the land of destiny. 6 RUTH SHEDD. 193613. Thinking of the future, and of days behind. Duty calls us onward, our careers to find. Farewell. Alma Mater, sturdy in your might, May thy lessons guide us, in the ways of right, Brightest years of life are swiftly gliding by, May these mem'ries linger beacons in our sky, Farewell to our teachers, who have led us on, May we keep their precepts, till the battle's won, Farewell dear companions, praises we will sing, Farewell our dear High School, honor we will bring. Huckleberry Finn, presented in November in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Mark Twain, was an accurate dramatization of the novel. During March a one-act play tournament was held at the South Methodist church in which every member took part rehearsing and directing the productions themselves. These consisted of a fantasy, a folk-play, a satire, a realistic and a romantic tragedy, and a social, a realistic and a sentimental comedy. The King of Sherwood, pre- sented in the Educational Square in May, was an amusing comedy. The climax of the year's activities was the annual initiatory dance held at the Country Club, June 12th. ' QW ll-I IDIEIK IE Y GIRLS' ATHLETICS There has been opportunity in the Physical Education program for girls this year. as in the past. to participate in many varied types of activities. Play for play's sake. was the pleasure derived from the sports program both in the regular gym classes and in the after school activities. Regular gym classes in the fall were started with field hockey. Basketball introduced the winter program followed by athletic, clog, and tap dancing. Danish gymnastics. stunts, tumbling. and pyramid building followed the Feb- ruary vacation. Scores of the ping-pong and volley-ball tournaments in the spring were used to determine the winner of the banner. A feature of the swimming program in the second semester was a marathon swim in which five fundamental strokes were practiced. The object of this year's intra-mural sports' program was 'AA team for every girl and every girl on a team. The tournaments resulted in the choosing of an all-star Blue and White team for each sport. The winner of the final game in field-hockey played the Hartford Hockey Club at Wethersfield. The basket- ball season ended with the Wlmite team victorious in the Blue and White compe- tition: and the seniors held the title in the inter-class tournament. Volley-ball: courses in life-saving, both senior and junior: Leaders' class: a tennis tournament: baseball: and a gym assembly were other activities in which girls were able to earn additional points. The latter was a general review of the program of the entire year.
