Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1979 volume:

• « Dedication to Mr. Leo A. Fraser We feel that it is important to recognize a man who has given an endless number of hours to the production of the Manchester High School Anchor. With help and continuous encouragement, he made this yearbook possible. For these reasons, we dedicate the 1 979 edition to Mr. Leo Fraser. For many years, Mr. Fraser has served as the loyal advisor to the yearbook staff. Without his help, guidance, and continuous supply of Dunkin’ Donuts, (not to mention the honeydipped, glazed, and chocolate frosted), The Anchor Staff may not have succeeded in putting together such a fine collection of memories. Through his undying enthusiasm, Leo Fraser has instilled in the student body the motivation and interest necessary to make the Anchor, a Manchester High tradition. We hope that the students and faculty realize that this dedication is in no way sufficient to thank Mr. Fraser for all he has done, but it is the best and most appropriate token that we can give. Thanks, Mr. Fraser, for all your help and spirit! The Anchor Staff — 1 979 Ill We Shall Journey Onward, Do I really have to take this? What kind of business? Just plug him in and he thinks! I titr ■ Senior Chorus Over the past two years. The Senior High Chorus has grown from being virtually nonexistent to a well-known and popular musical group at Mane r- ster H go This great improvement is largely due to the efforts and dedication of Advisor Mary Quin- lon. who has invoked the spirit and enthusiasm which bring this group alive. The Chorus has presented many programs at Christmas and throughout the year, pro- viding enjoyable entertainment to the community and students of Manchester High. % M ' ' I Co-Editors, Marigrace Rooney and Nancy Ina YEARBOOK STAFF 1 978-79 The 1 978-79 Yearbook Staff: Back Row — Advisor — Mr. Leo Fraser, Martha Sibley, Eliza Proctor, Nancy Ina, Marigrace Rooney. Freshman Football 78’ The Freshman Football Team had an outstanding season. They were undefeated. This was due in great part to the defensive unit. The first team defense was unscored upon for the entire season. Coach Bilante and Coach Ananian deserve much credit. We look forward to seeing this team in the future. In an increasingly strong Cape Ann League the Cross Country Teams kept their winning records. The girls’ squad was 6-4 and the boys’ squad 7-6. The year was one of many individual triumphs and tragedies. A meet often saw several individual records set, as well as some heart-breaking injuries incurred. Despite individual setbacks due to inju- ries, the team spirit remained strong. In a great team effort the boys’ squad beat a typically strong Lynn- field team 26-29 for the first time ever. Many girls came close to breaking the 20 minute barrier as the team fielded its strongest squad ever! Coach Prouty Coach Anthony mm aaS w ' ' mm V ttplf gaSag i ii !« papf ' iiiiiimi i isms s J£§l Out of a twelve game schedule, the J.Vs contin- ued their winning tradition with an 7-2-3 record. The squad showed excellent comraderie and were constantly encouraging each other to greater efforts. Win, lose, or draw, they were always in good spir- its. There is excellent balance between offense and defense, which wa s accomplished by an inter- change of positions. The team was fortunate to have a dedicated goa- ley in Beth Dwyer, and her efforts saved many a game. Forward line players who consistently scored were Amy Neal, Patrice Fusco, Deedee Mitchell and Leslie Landry. 69 From L to R: Back Row — Manager — Rick MacPhearson, Geoff Lear, David Bell, Jimmy St. Clair, co-captain Paul Nasser, Jimmy Lance, Tony Bullock, Coach Milne.
