Dedication to Mr. Joseph M. Hyland A true and unpretentious dedication must be given to a person who is dedicated not only to his work , but more especially to the one who represents the real spirit of his work . We students at Manchester Jr. -Sr. High School have been fortunate enough to know a man who exemplifies the word dedication in all he does. Without exception , his contributions to our schools and the community have always been made with the best interests of the people in mind . His support of the athletic and academic programs has been unfailing over an awesome period of forty years. This man has devoted his years as a coach and athletic director for the betterment of school sports and student character. He possesses an understanding of every sport at MHS , and he treats all sports endeavors with equal enthusiasm and interest. He has always emphasized a sportsmanlike attitude first and winning second . He believes that students should have pride in their school and a respect for common courtesy, always stressing the importance of being people first and athletes second . How can we thank a man who has given us so much and asks for so little in return? The Class of ' 77 says thank you, and takes pride in dedicating the 1977 edition of The Anchor to Mr. Joseph M. Hyland, a man who has been a friend to us all, and one whom we will always remember fondly . We will be the last graduating class to benefit from his understanding manner, his joy in victory, his pride in defeat. No words can fully express the emotions we feel as we say good-bye, but we hope Uncle Joe understands with these words he has so often spoken to us, May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face . . . and may God hold you in the palm of His hand. With our love and best wishes , THE CLASS OF ' 77 8
