This year’s Basketball team was a very inexperienced squad. Only three Seniors returned from the year before. Other Seniors played important roles, also. Junior Carl Peace and Sophomore Ray Bentham gained valuable experience. The Freshmen were important members and played key roles in the team’s development. Though the team was 1-19, all of the players showed great enthusiasm and heart all year long. “I’m very proud of all of them,” said Coach Miller. “It was a tough season but they gave one hundred percent at every practice and every game. You can’t ask for anything more than that!” Clockwise: (top left) — Carl Peace shoots a free throw. The team during a time-out. Carl Peace goes to the basket. Nelson Hogan after making a shot. “IT’S ALL IN THE GAME” The 1987-88 J.V. Basketball season had many peaks and valleys. The team has to content with a lack of height and depth on the bench. In all areas except the win loss record, this season could be considered a success. The young men on this team learned how to successfully run a set offense versus changing defenses. As the season progressed, the shooting improved as did team play. They learned that teamwork can overcome great odds. These young men learned a great deal and it will be up to them to continue to improve in order to achieve the winning edge for the next season.
