Flags Add Color To Athletics L-R: Kelly Anderson, Lori Plaugher, Renee Hall, Debbie Kovacs, Tina Butler, (Not pictured: Kyra Pilkington). ' Flag girls march in the 1980 Christmas Parade. The flags and majorettes were formed several years ago because of a keen interest on the girls’ part. Enthusiastic and anxious to rehearse, they enlisted the help of Mrs. Pearson to be their sponsor. The girls chose their own outfits- black shorts vests with gold sweaters for the flag corp and gold leotards with skirts and black vests for the majorettes. With new uniforms, the season began in September when the girls performed at all the home games. Then came the Christmas Parade and finally home basketball games. Mrs. Pearson and the girls chose a variety of songs such as: Rock n’ Roll Fantasy, Pm Coming Out, A Fifth of Beethoven and California Strut. 114 Sports The girls had a great season and are anticipating next year to be the best ever.

Junior Varsity Shows Enthusiasm From top to bottom: Denise Cunningham, Pam Hall, Dana Propst, Terry Bates, Tammy Stuart. The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders have contributed a lot of spirit and enthu- siam to the fall sports. As a brand new squad they have worked hard. Each has contributed time and effort in various fund-raising activities such as bake sales, doughnut sales, and a very successful bowl-a-thon. Prior to the beginning of the school year, the J.V. cheerleaders attended a cheerleading clinic in Springfield, Va. Which was sponsored by the Varsity Cheerleaders.

The MPHS majorettes, Tammy Kilgore and Cathy Maitland, partici¬ pated in football pre-game and half-time shows and in a girls’ basketball tour¬ nament at MPHS. During boys’ basketball season, they performed during half-time at all home games. They also enter¬ tained at junior high school girls’ basketball games and marched in the 1980 Manassas Christmas Parade. Under the direction of their sponsor, Kathy Pearson, the majorettes practiced diligently dur¬ ing their free time.
