Dennis James, a senior did the 60 yard dash in 6.3 seconds. Larry Armstrong another senior did the 880 in two minutes and nine seconds and Wayne Bowler, a sophomore, did the 880 in two minutes and fourteen seconds. WILLIAMS After a year's absence the Girls' Track Team was organized again under the direction of Miss Margaret Williams, a physical education teacher at Shabazz. With Miss Williams as coach, the Girls' Track Team looks forward to an active season. GIRLS’ TENNIS The Tennis Club, headed by Mrs. Mackay, was organized three years ago at Malcolm X. Shabazz High School. This year the club consists of fifteen members. Practice is held in Wecquahic Park. The club's schedule for spring 1973 includes competing with other schools. McCLOUD The Future Nurses Club is composed of girls whose goals are careers in nursing. Meetings are held twice monthly in the nurse's office. Visits to hospitals, guest speakers and nursing conferences are scheduled throughout the school year. MEYERS The Library Club consists of twelve students whose interests in reading has expanded to working in the school's library, aiding their fellow students. The advisors of the club are the school librarians. The Students Council Acting on the Prevention of Drug Abuse, was formed in 19 71. The purpose of such a club is the study of the drug problem at Malcolm X., encompassing the cause, the prevention, and the treatment for the student addict. The club is connected with die School's Drug Review Committee composed of a counselor, Mr. Young, a school administrator, Mr. Martin, a social worker. Miss Parker, a school nurse, Miss Dickey-Kcmp, a student representative, Miss Conic, a P.T.A. parent, Mrs. Bernard, and a member of the Newell Drug Rehabilitation Agency, Mr. Brenton Wright. Thespians ADVISOR, MRS. BUTCHER Aspira ADVISORS, MRS. RAMOS, MISS WASHINGTON Aspira is an organization dedicated to promoting Spanish culture and to assisting Spanish speaking students solve problems that may cause them to drop out of school. The group’s president is Jose Padilla, and die vice-president is Welfredo Rivera. Drama Club ADVISORS, MR. SAPORITO, MISS KNIGHT This year the Drama Club consists of fifteen members whose advisors arc both English teachers. The group meets twice weekly to rehearse plays or skits which are later presented to the entire student body. He felt a group like these would appeal to some members of the Malcolm X. student body and it did with great success.
