Minerick ADULT EDUCATION Contributing to Maine West ' s excellent aca- demic standing is its diversified and popular program of adult education which encompasses a wide range of adult interests. The curriculum includes women ' s gymnastics, sewing, travel lec- ture series, courses dealing with hobbies, and do-it-yourself instruction as well as high school and college type academic courses in math, Eng- lish, and others. Any resident of Maine Township, even the high school or college graduate, can benefit from at least one of the many courses available. £ M. Johnston READING CENTER The reading center was established in another effort by Maine West to provide for the maximum possible development of its students. In the read- ing center more thorough comprehension and ex- tended reading speed are stressed in an effort to supplement the reading skills fostered in the class- room. Students are instructed on an individual basis with help of the most modern reading facil- ities and are thus permitted to advance and de- velop at their own rate according to their personal interests and abilities. 22

ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT Dr. Earle W. Wiltse Schools in District 207 are under the supervision of Dr. E. W. Wiltse. During his many years of service Dr. Wiltse has institut- ed ideas and policies which have contributed to the high standards for which Maine Township is known. He works with the faculty and administration at the indi- vidual schools in the district to set up programs and regulations. His efforts over the years have made Maine one of the top schools in the state. ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Ra4F h J. Frost, Jr. Mr. Frost ' s duty is to organize the meetings at which Dr. Wiltse presides, as well as the individual staff and interdepartmental meetings. He outlines the choice of courses a student may take at Maine, and evaluates the effectiveness of the courses now being offered. In event of Dr. Wiltse ' s absence Mr. Frost assumes the added responsibility of holding his position. BUSINESS MANAGER Mr. Harold Markworth As business manager of the Maine Township High Schools it is Mr. Mark- worth ' s job to act as secretary to the Board of Education and treasurer of the entire school district. His duties entail preparing the budget and supply buying for all the schools in District 207. He and his staff keep all the bx)oks involving the district financial affairs in order and direct the district accounts. 24 COORDINATOR OF GUIDANCE Mr. Merlin W. Schultz Mr. Schultz, coordinator of guidance on the district level, performs many tasks related to the professional people employed at Maine. He works in unison with the counselors, the school social worker, the nurses, and the school psychologist to enable the students at Maine to have a well-rounded counseling service. 2
