$ MUSIC Boasting one of the finest music departments in the state of Illinois, Maine West is duly proud of its state championship marching band and state championship show band, its fine orchestra, and numerous excellent choral groups. Music stu- dents gain valuable knowledge and experience by participating in the numerous musical events such as V-Show, school assemblies, and concerts which take place throughout the school year and demand long unglamorous hours of repetitious and tedious practice. Marshall MATHEMATICS If a number of individuals were asked to boil down the general aim of the entire educa- tional system, the general consensus of opinion would probably be that its goal is to develop the student ' s mind to its maximum potential and to develop sense of clear thinking and logica deduction. Such is the specific and principal ob- jective of the math department. The courses of- fered, which range from basic math to calculus, not only teach how to solve math problems but also how to attack any problem or difficult situa- tion the student may encounter with an orderly sense of reasoning and direction.
