Physical Education Physical education offers students opportunities to de- velop leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Maine West has a four-year program of Boys' P. E. and Girls' P. E. which includes swimming, social dancing, modern dance, and gymnastics. Students who enjoy sports may go out for either G.A.A. or Intramurals and may sign up for the gym leader program. K. Science One of the purposes of the Science Department is to help students understand and contribute to a scientific age. The department also prepares students for technical careers in science. Students are offered general, physical, and earth science, physics, two years of biology, and two years of chemistry. The latter two courses include extensive work in the science laboratories at Maine West. Especially in- terested students who receive high grades in science may participate in the science seminar.
